Contracts signed for the renewal of the Bucharest-Pitești railway, the last two lots

The National Railway Company CFR SA announced that the CF Bucharest Regional Branch signed on Tuesday two contracts for the renewal of the Bucharest-Pitești railway.

The contracts have a total value of 583.87 million lei/ 119 million EUR, excluding VAT, and concern the replacement of track superstructure elements on the Bucharest-Pitești railway line. These are the last two lots of the renewal programme, financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), for a maximum speed of 120 km/hour.

The Bucharest CF Regional Branch and the company Yapi Merkezi ve Sanayi A.S. (Turkey) signed on Tuesday the contracts for the replacement works of the track superstructure elements, the last two lots, with a total length of 196.7 km, related to this section:

- Lot 1: Chitila-Ciocănești (track II) and Ciocănești-Titu (track I and track II), from km 10+600 to km 49+780 (current and direct lines from Săbăreni, Ciocănești and Ghergani stations);

- Lot 2: Titu-Călinești-Golești (track I and track II), from km 49+980 to km 95+000 (current and direct lines from Fusea, Mătăsaru, Găești, Leordeni and Călinești stations).

Renewal of the Bucharest-Pitești railway, in figures

Under the two contracts, each lasting 36 months (three years), renewal work will be carried out on 196.7 km of track by replacing the following components of the track superstructure in turn: rail - sleepers (196.7 km), 149 switches and crossings, switches and crossings parts, transition couplers, normal and special wooden sleepers (for switches and crossings, bridges/deckings), bridge/deck counter rails, metal decking, tamped and un tamped for decks, fully equipped concrete sleepers, resilient slabs at 23 level crossings, small material, crushed stone, including works for the realisation of the track without joists.

Also under the renewal programme on the Bucharest-Pitești CF line, work is already underway on the replacement of the track superstructure on the Călinești-Golești-Pitești section (21 km), from km 95+000 to km 107+575, including lines 1a, 1b, 5 and 6 from the Golești CF station, a contract worth 82.13 million lei/ 16,7 million EUR, excluding VAT, concluded in March 2023 between SRCF Craiova and the Strabag - Metabet CF SA association.

"With the signing of these last two contracts, CFR SA ends 2023 with a 100% contracting degree, with all 142 contracts, totalling approx. 17.46 billion lei/ 3,56 billion EUR, excluding VAT, signed, under which 970 km of railway will be modernised, electrified, repaired and renewed for maximum speeds of 120 km/hour - 160 km/hour, by 2026", said Ion Simu-Alexandru, CFR SA's Director General.
