Great budget on Romanian infrastructure investements
These days the State Budget is under approval on Parliament. On Transport Ministry we have good situation.
816 kilometer's of motorway and expressway will be under construction in 2024, and CFR Infrastructure has projects to modernise and electrify 440 kilometres of railway, Transport Minister Sorin Grindeanu announced in Parliament on Monday. For 2024, the approved budget of the Ministry of Transport is over 30 billion lei/6,12 billion EUR with 20 billion lei/ 4 billion EUR European funding. Of the 816 kilometres of motorway and expressway under construction, the Transport Minister estimates that about 150 kilometres will be opened to traffic. For CFR Infrastructure, the 8 major PNRR contracts for the M 100 Caransebeș-Timișoara-Arad and the M 300 Cluj-Oradea are signed, and for electrification the Constanța-Mangalia, Videle-Giurgiu and M 500 Vicșani-Ukraine border lines are proposed.
The total investment budget from European funds is 20 billion lei/ 4 billion EUR, an increase of 29% compared to 2023. We are talking about funds through PNRR, CEF (Connecting Europe Facility) and the Transport Programme 2021-2027 of which the co-financing from the State Budget is 12 billion lei/ 3 billion EUR. Next year we have in execution projects worth a total of 81 billion lei/ 16,5 bilion EUR. Next year, on high-speed roads, motorways and high-speed roads, there are 816 kilometres in execution with a total value of 55 billion lei/11,2 billion EUR . On the railways, 440 kilometres, modernisation and electrification. And I'll add another point, the acquisition of new trains, 131 new trains worth 5 billion lei/ 1 billion EUR" Sorin Grindeanu said.
Another 60 new trains worth 2.5 billion lei/510 million EUR are to be purchased through the Modernisation Fund.
