New railway projects in Constanta.
The Ministry of Transport has established the estimated value of the works for the doubling and electrification of the Constanta-Mangalia line. It is €267.56 million. Once the project is adopted by the Government, CNCF CFR SA can launch the tender for design and execution.
On the Constanta-Mangalia railway line, with a length of 42.9 km: CT- Agigea Ecluză (double and electrified line - 9.6 km), Agigea Ecluză - Mangalia (single non-electrified line - 33.3 km) are located six CF stations and four stopping points.The maximum speed is 80 km/h for passenger trains and 60 km/h for freight trains. Trains are towed by diesel-electric traction. Trains run on automatic track block only between Constanta and Eforie Nord, and between Eforie Nord and Mangalia - on open track.
The planned works concern:
- electrification, doubling and rehabilitation of the line - by electrifying the Agigea Ecluză-Mangalia line in addition to the Constanța-Agigea Ecluză section, it will be possible to run with electric traction on the Cosntanța-Mangalia distance, thus eliminating diesel-electric traction;
- increasing safety by rehabilitating the c.f. line, the engineering works, carrying out the necessary consolidation works and thus removing speed restrictions;
- reducing journey times by increasing the maximum speed allowed on the Constanta-Mangalia route and eliminating the need to change locomotives at Constanta station;
- a 30-minute timed running time for the trains on the Constanta-Mangalia route;
- increase passenger comfort by modernising platforms, coach buildings and other facilities at stations/stops in accordance with TSI rules;
- CEL Eforie Nord - Mangalia central operating station located in the CMT Constanta building + necessary ERTMS level 2 equipment for the Constanta-Mangalia line.
The line will also be doubled between Costinești and Mangalia.
Trains will run on an electrified double line of 26.4 km (9.6 km from Constanta - H.m. axis). Agigea Ecluză + 16.8 km Costinești axis - Mangalia axis) and 16.5 km electrified single line (H.m. Agigea Ecluză axis - Costinești axis). The line will be equipped with electronic line control (CEL) and ERTMS Level 2. The CEL electronic line control system will be operated from a central station to be located in the CMT CT building.
The project includes: 23 new bridges, one crossing bridge, four bridges, four underpasses, one pedestrian overpass, one CFR/Enel traction substation.
The total value of the investment also includes expropriation and relocation of utilities, so the actual value of the investment is that of the construction works, equivalent to EUR 267.56 million.
Capacities:
- Length of upgraded track (single line) - 16.50 km;
- length of double line - 28.20 km.
Duration of investment: 24 months.
